The 4th Sheikh Kamal Memorial T20 Cricket championship concluded today at the Woodley Cricket Fields in suburban of Los Angeles. The tournament was introduced in 2017 in memory of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, a valiant freedom fighter and a pioneer sports organizer in the post-independence Bangladesh. Sheikh Kamal Cricket Championship was held under the auspices of Southern California Cricket Association (SCCA) on 4-6 September 2021. 12 teams from different states of the USA participated in the Sheikh Kamal Cricket championship. Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States, M Shahidul Islam attended the prize distribution ceremony on the final day of the tournament as Chief Guest.


Ambassador Islam expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Southern California cricket association and the members of the organizing committee for dedicating the T20 Cricket Championship to the memory of valiant freedom fighter and great sports organizer Shaheed Sheikh Kamal. Paying respect to Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, he recalled the role and contribution of Sheikh Kamal for pioneering the culture and sports of Bangladesh. The Ambassador hoped that holding cricket tournaments regularly in the USA will promote people to people contact and cultural exchange between communities and countries.

Mr Pradeep Patel, President, Southern California Cricket Association; Mr Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Boby, Director, Bangladesh Cricket Board; Dr Rabi Alam, Chief Coordinator of Sheikh Kamal Memorial Cricket Championship among others were present during the Prize distribution ceremony. Minister (Consular) Mr. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Consul General Md Waliur Rahman and Commercial Consullor SM Khurshid Ul Alam were present on the occasion.  A significant number of expatriates community members including Mr Shafiqur Rahman, President of California State Awami League attended the event.
